“The Bubble” – Thoughts from Zak Mirzadeh

Posted 12th, January 2017 in Blog by

Why does it take everything in us to talk with strangers? Remember when we were kids, and this wasn’t the case?  Jesus affiliated Himself with tax collectors, prostitutes, and sinners. He hung out with the outcast. Why did he do this? Because Jesus went to inhabit other people’s space. Not his own environment … But theirs.

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news”

Remember that time when you were with a group of people who all talked about how God doesn’t exist? Remember how uncomfortable that made you feel? Have you ever thought about how uncomfortable it is for someone going to church for the very first time?

I was a Muslim the first time I went to church. It was incredibly uncomfortable. I now realize that the best way someone evangelized me was in my own safe space which ultimately led to my salvation.

So, how do we get out of our OWN safe spaces and inhabit other people’s spaces?  We need to move outside of the 4 walls of the church and go to places that may be uncomfortable for us. When we are vulnerable, and unbelievers are in a safe environment to have spiritual conversations…It . Changes . Everything.

Now, some of my most fruitful conversations have been in places where I wasn’t on my home turf.

“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”

And, when we do get in their spaces, what do they see? A transformation in us? Jesus? Something different?  What do we have to offer?  The Gospel…Space. Transformation. The Gospel.

The Harvest is plentiful, my friends.  But the workers are few. Embrace the space. This is precisely what Reach Your City is doing.
